Tiverton is a mid-Devon market town of around 22,000, sat where the Exe and Lowman meet, and its single best-known employer has been making cloth here for over two centuries. Heathcoat Fabrics, on the Westexe side of the river off Leat Street (EX16 5LL), is a long-established technical textile manufacturer. These days that means high-performance fabrics for aerospace, defence parachutes and industrial use rather than the lace the firm started with. Most of the other work clusters in the EX16 6 area off the A361 link road on the western edge of town. Transport: Tiverton Parkway sits about six miles east of the town beside Junction 27 of the M5, on the main line to London Paddington. The fastest services run around 1h50, with most nearer 2h10, and Exeter is about 15 minutes the other way. The A361 North Devon Link Road feeds straight onto the M5 at J27, which is why a fair amount of logistics and distribution work is within commuting reach.
